After Aisha Buhari Cup Flop, Oshoala Humbled, Begs Nigerians To Forgive Super Falcons

Reigning Africa’s Women Football of the Year award winner, Asisat Oshoala is not happy with the performance of the Nigeria senior female team, the Super Falcons against the Banyana Banyana of South Africa in the last match of the just concluded Aisha Buhari Cup.

P.M. EXPRESS reports that two penalties and an own goal by defender Michelle Alozie conspired to hand South Africa victory over the Super Falcons in the final match of the maiden edition of Aisha Buhari Invitational Tournament at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Lagos on Tuesday.

Oshoala, who is the captain of the Nigerian team, felt bad that the girls could not live up to expectations in the crucial match, adding that the result came short of what the teeming fans of the team were looking out for.

“Yesterday (Tuesday)’ s defeat still hurts I must confess,” said the FC Barcelona Femini striker in a statement on Wednesday while pleading that Nigerians should forgive the Falcons for failing them.

“The result of the match was a huge disappointment from all of us. As the captain of the team, I’m indeed sorry because we did not fight hard enough. This is a wake-up call and I promise we won’t let our fans and the nation down like this again.

“On behalf of the team, I want to thank the organizers of the tournament, from the Mother of the Nation, H.E (Dr.) Aisha Buhari, H.E Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, H.E (Dr.) Mrs Sanwo-Olu, the NFF, Air Peace boss, AIETO, MTN, other corporate supporters and indeed the FANS of our football, thank you for helping promote Women’s Football in Africa, ” Oshoala said.
