Ahead Edo 2020 Sports Festival: Lagos Drills Athletes, Holds Trials Across Sports From 20-28 February

Lagos State is leaving nothing to chance to ensure that it presents a formidable squad for the 2020 National Sports Festival, which holds in Edo State next month.

P.M. EXPRESS can report that since 20 February, Lagos sports is a beehive of activities, as the state began series of trials across individual sports in a bid to select quality athletes for the sports festival. The trials which are currently going at different centres in the state, will end on 28 February.

The seven days trials are holding at the Teslim Balogun, Surulere, Lagos, National Stadium, Mobolaji Johnson Sports Centre, Rowe Park, Yaba, National Institute of Sports (NIS), BICS Boat Club, Lekki, Old Secretariat, Ikoyi, Dolphins Golf Club, Navy Town, Ojo, Kara, Berger.

Some of the sports include athletics, deaf athletics, boxing, chess, judo, karate, taekwondo, wrestling, deaf table tennis, table tennis, canoeing, para-athletics, para table tennis, powerlifting, weightlifting, badminton, kokowa, dart, dambe, ayo and others.

It would be recalled that in the Abuja 2018 National Sports Festival, Team Lagos, holding strictly to its principle of youth sports development, amassed a total 146 medals with a breakdown showing 36 gold, 37 silver and 73 bronze the biggest haul among all the 36 states that participated.

Team Lagos came fourth overall in the 19th sports festival in Abuja.
