Here are six things we’re eagerly anticipating ahead of this year’s awards:

Expanded Four-Day Celebration

This year’s AMVCA is set to span four days, from May 7 to May 10. This extended format aims to provide a more immersive experience, allowing for a variety of events that celebrate achievements in film, culture, fashion, and music.

Introduction of the Best Music Score Category

a move to recognise the integral role of music in film, the AMVCA has introduced the Best Music Score category. This addition highlights the importance of musical composition in enhancing cinematic storytelling.

Diverse and Talented Nominees

The list of nominees showcases a rich tapestry of talent across various categories. Notable films like “Lisabi: The Uprising”, “Skeleton Coast”, “House of Ga’a”, “My Fairy Tale Wedding’’ and “Freedom Way” have secured nominations. These films are expected to be strong contenders on the night.

Public Voting Engagement

The AMVCA will, this year, allow the public to vote in certain categories. This empowers viewers to have a say in recognising their favorite performances and productions. Voting is open until May 4, 2025, via the Africa Magic website.

Honorary Recognitions

The 11th edition will feature two honorary awards: the Industry Merit Award and the Trailblazer Award.

These accolades aim to honor individuals who have made significant contributions to the African film and television industry.

Live Broadcast Across Africa Magic Channels

The grand finale on May 10 will be broadcast live across all Africa Magic channels on DStv and GOtv.

This ensures that audiences across the continent can join in the celebration of African cinematic excellence.

As the AMVCA 11 approaches, the excitement continues to build. With an expanded format, new categories, and a diverse array of nominees, this year’s awards are set to be a memorable celebration of African storytelling.
