Anambra tanker Explosion: FRSC Confirms 2 Casualties

The Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, Anambra State Command, has confirmed two people dead in the tanker explosion that rocked the state on Tuesday.


Recall that a Mack tanker (with no registration number) laden with PMS and a shuttle bus (with no registration number) were, on Tuesday morning, involved in a fatal road traffic crash at Cords Filling Station, Umunya, along the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway.


It was gathered that the tanker driver, who was on high speed, lost control, and rammed into the shuttle from behind, leading to an explosion, as and the two vehicles crashed and caught fire immediately.
Confirming the incident in a statement to newsmen, the Sector Commander, FRSC Anambra State Sector Command,  CC Adeoye Irelewuyi, said two casualties were recorded, while one person was rescued unhurt.


He noted that one of the victims was burnt beyond recognition in the crash that involves five male adults.
He said “As at the time of filling this report, the fire service have been able to put off the fire, Police personnel from Oyi Division, Nteje were invited; and the dead victims were handed over to them by the FRSC team from RS5.33 Nteje Unit Command.
“FRSC Rescue team from Nteje Command are still on ground managing traffic and ensuring obstruction caused by the crash is removed.”
CC Irelewuyi further commiserated with the families of the dead victims, and warned motorist to avoid speeding and keep to recommend speed limit.
