Confederation of Africa Football (CAF) women footballer award winner, Nigerian Asisat Oshoala is happy that he has won a trophy for her Spanish side, FC Barcelona Femení in the Primera División and she is dedicating the silverware medal and goals to her godmother, Rev (Mother) Esther Abimbola Ajayi, theGeneral Overseer of Love of Christ Church in Clapham, London.

Oshoala, striker with Nigeria’s Super Falcons secured her maiden trophy with the Liga Iberdrola side following a convincing win over Espanyol.

Oshoala has begun to realise her dreams in Spain as she helped Barcelona win the 2019 Copa Catalunya after a 4-0 win over Espanyol in the final on Saturday.

The Nigeria international, who initially joined the Liga Iberdrola side on loan in January before securing a permanent deal due to her convincing form, scored eight goals in 11 games in June this year.

Since her arrival in Spain, the Blaugrana crumbled in the race for the Spanish Liga Iberdrola and the Women’s Champions League titles, leaving Oshoala, a former player of FC Robo, a Nigerian grassroots female football club in Lagos, no chance to celebrate a silverware.

Heading to Saturday’s final, Oshoala had scored to help her side to a 5-1 win over the Seagulls in the pre-season competition at the Estadi Municipal Palamos Costa Brava last Thursday.

The result means Oshoala has finally won her first trophy with the Liga Iberdrola outfit, scoring nine goals in six games for Cortes’ side this season and 17 in 17 overall.

“I am really excited to score 17 goals in 17 matches,” she said from her base in Spain after the weekend’s victory. “This had never happened before I am super excited and I want to use this medium to appreciate Allah’s blessing and grace upon me and big thanks to my fans and also my godmother, Rev (Mother) Esther Ajayi of the Love of Christ Generation Church in London who has been very supportive to me right from day one of meeting her.

“She is a philanthropist per excellence who always bestows her love for humanity regardless religious and ethnic backgrounds.  May God bless her,” said Oshoala, who is expected to join her teammates in the Nigerian senior female national team, the Super Falcons, who are preparing for the qualifying match against Algeria for the football event of Tokyo Olympic Games.

Nigeria versus Algeria crucial match will hold on 3 September, 2019 at the Agege Stadium in Agege, Lagos State.
