Cable TV Dying, Streaming Rising: GOtv Pivots New Era of Entertainment With GOtv Stream

Posted on December 18, 2023

On December 1, 2023, leading Digital Terrestrial Television (DTT) service provider, GOtv, entered the video streaming media market, with the introduction of the GOtv Stream app. The new app is poised to disrupt and elevate the media consumption habits of its customers.

GOtv became an instant favourite among low and middle-income earners when it entered the Nigerian market with its DTT technology in 2011 and looks set to expand its appeal by delivering Over-the-top (OTT) and Video-on-demand (VOD) services to its customers through the GOtv Stream app.

The app is set to enable customers to create account profiles, curate a watchlist on Catch Up, download content, plan their viewing using GOtv TV Guide, and even manage children’s viewing preferences. This functionality allows customers to tailor their viewing experiences by creating personalised watchlists from the available content.

Registered accounts on GOtv Stream can also add up to four devices. Users can create their profile, and keep their watchlist, videos, and recommendations for a more personalised viewing preference at no extra cost. The app is compatible with either Android or IOS devices.

With an exciting line-up of interesting shows such as the Big Brother Naija, Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards, Come Play Naija, and Nigerian Idols among others, GOtv customers can now enjoy their favourite entertainment and sports content either in real-time or on-demand on GOtv Stream.

The strategic move comes on the heels of Nigeria’s ever growing internet users which is estimated to be nearly 84 million internet users as of 2022 and is projected to grow to 117 million internet users in 2027. The introduction of the GOtv App places the Pay TV company in pole position to further dominate both the cable TV and video streaming market.

Put into perspective, GOtv customers are getting a two-in-one offer with their regular subscription. The streaming App will complement the use of decoders for television viewership. Considering the rising cost of energy and the perennial irregular power supply challenge in Nigeria, the innovation is a masterstroke for GOtv.

Without a doubt, GOtv customers receive substantial value for their subscription to their preferred GOtv package. If your decoder is disconnected, dial *288# to reconnect or upgrade to enjoy the exciting features of GOtv Stream.
