A 36-year old dismissed Police officer, Oluwagbenga Isaac, ignored his sack from the Police Force, returned to the highway to perform unlawful duty and extorted from motorists while claiming that he was wrongly dismissed by the Police authorities.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that while the dismissed officer, Isaac, was performing the illegal duty, he was then arrested by the Police intelligence team from Ikotun Division as information got to the Police that he was intimidating and harassing the members of public with Police uniform and extorting from them.
He was subsequently detained at the station with the Police uniform for interrogation over his conduct and he equally claimed that he was a serving Police officer.
During interrogation, Isaac was asked to prove that he was actually a serving Police officer. It was at that point that he then admitted that he was wrongly disengaged from the Nigeria Police when he was not ready to go; so he ignored the Police authorities, returned to work and continued to perform his normal duty.
The Police investigators found him culpable for impersonation having been disengaged from the Nigeria Police Force and yet paraded himself as a serving Police officer. He was subsequently charged before the Ejigbo Magistrates Court for the alleged offence.
When he was arraigned, he pleaded not guilty before the Court.
The prosecutor, Supol Benedict Aigbokhan, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. A.K. Dosumu, granted him bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment.
The defendant was remanded in custody at the Correctional Centre at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when he will perfect his bail conditions while the matter was adjourned for mention.
