Posted on March 12, 2024

Profiles of Nigerian DJs are now on meteoric rise and they are indeed getting due recognition just like the new waves of Afrobeats artistes that are rocking the international scene with their new sounds. One of the progenitors of the new global movement is master of the turntable, Wahab Abideen Olakunle, professionally known by his stage name as ‘DJ Wahab’.

Talking about the projects he is currently working on, he stated that, “I’m working on new mix-tapes and also working in collaboration with some artistes, so be expecting my new mixtapes and hopefully an EP before the end of this year”.

Speaking further, “I’m also working on my United Kingdom tour.  I will be touring the UK for the second time based on the demand from my teeming fans. I will be playing for my fans in London, Manchester, and Liverpool among other cities.

“My first tour was an unforgettable experience, so my fans should get set for some memorable moments as I will be thrilling them with nothing but the best of jams”, he added.

When asked what makes a good DJ, he stated that, “A good DJ should be able to read the mood of a party or an event. I do not limit myself to a particular genre of music. I also love to research and explore other genres of music, especially foreign music”.

DJ Wahab is putting finishing touches to his latest mixtape, Afrobeats–The Evolution which will be available for downloads on all music streaming platforms soon.

He spoke on the mixtape, “I choose the name because the playlist consists of how Afrobeats songs have evolved over time. A mix of old and latest tunes. I’m quite excited about this project and people should be on the lookout for it”.
