The Transition Committee list of Prof. CC. Soludo was released yesterday with Dr Oby Ezekwesili appointed as the Head of a team of eggheads drawn from different walks of life, cutting across different fields.
The commentaries have been pouring in. To most observers, it is one list too many, bearing all shades of good. To some others, it is a reflection of Sóludo’s genius and ability to cause groundbreaking change.
However, what only a few have observed is Soludo’s positive disposition to gender parity. From the days he toured the nooks and crannies of Anambra speaking and interacting with the people, especially women groups, Sóludo continues to affirm a strong belief in the ability of Women to excel in uncharted waters.
The choice of Dr. Oby Ezekwesili is a confirmation that Soludo reposes great confidence in the women folk; which, of course, is one major source of inspiration to young Anambra, nay Igbo women that it is possible to gain recognition on the merit of one’s positive records irrespective of their gender or other subjective factors.
This is a major win for Women, and a pointer to Soludo’s all inclusive leadership. What this shows is that Soludo believes in capacity, values and abilities, much more than certain existential realities that occur strictly by the accident of birth.
