Driver Strips Self Naked & Assaults Police Woman Over Traffic Offence On Highway

A 42-year old driver, Olatunji Aina, has been arrested and charged in Lagos State for allegedly stripping self naked and assaulting a female Traffic Police officer, ASP Umoru Cecilia, over a traffic offence on the highway.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened on 24th October, 2024, at Egbeda roundabout, Egbeda area of Lagos, where the officer was performing her lawful duty.
He was subsequently charged to Court by the Police at Gowon Estate Division for conduct likely to cause breach of public peace, assault and threat to life.
According to the Police, the driver committed a traffic offence and was apprehended by the victim, ASP Celilia, attached to Gowon Estate Division.
He was said to have pushed the officer with his vehicle, dragged and threatened to stab her with a knife after stripping himself naked in the public. However, he was arrested and detained at the station for interrogation over his alleged conduct.
After interrogation, he was found culpable and then charged before the Ejigbo Magistrate Court for the alleged offence, which attracts several years of imprisonment.
The charges read:
COUNT 1: “That you, Olatunji Aina “M” on the 24th day of October, 2024 at about 0930hrs at Egbeda Roundabout, Egbeda, Lagos in the Ikeja Magisterial District, did conduct yourself in a manner likely to cause breach of the peace by dragging with Police officers on official duty from Gowon Estate Police Station, knowing fully that you committed a traffic offence and stripped yourself naked and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 168 and punishable under Section 168 (d) of the criminal law of the Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”
COUNT 2:”That you, Olatunji Aina “M” on the same date, time and place in the aforementioned Magisterial District, did assault one ASP Umoru Cecilia attached to Gowon Estate Division by intentionally pushing her with your mini Suzuki Bus with registration No KSF207YE with Lagos State commercial colour and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 170 and punishable under Section 172 of the criminal law of the Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”
COUNT 3: “That you, Olatunji Aina “M” on the same date, time and place in the aforementioned Magisterial District, did unlawfully assault one ASP Umoru Cecilia attached to Gowon Estate Division by holding her on her official Police uniform while performing her lawful duty and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 174 (a)(b) and punishable under Section 174 of the criminal law of the Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”
COUNT 4:”That you, Ofatunji Aina “M” on the same date, time and place in the aforementioned Magisterial district, did threaten to stab one ASP Umoru Cecilia attached to Gowon Estate Division with a knife and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 56 and punishable under Section 56 (1b) of the criminal law of the Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”
He pleaded not guilty when he was arraigned.
The prosecutor, Supol Benedict Aigbokhan, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Ms K.A.Ariyo, granted him bail with two sureties, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will be verified by the Court.
The matter was adjourned till 14th January, 2024, for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
