Edewede (The Dawn Of A New Day)

We are in the age of communication and information layout. As good citizens, this is the time to equip ourselves with the truth; to aspire, desire and perspire for the truth; to preach and seek the truth always; defend and glorify the truth for it is the golden route to our collective fruits.

The truth is as committed to prospering a nation as the heaven is committed to the sky. It is the responsibility of every citizen to protect the welfare of his or her society; to defend her sustainability and profitability from criminality, myopic views and unproductive cultures.
EDEWEDE is a Nollywood film which features the atrocities of an evil blade of female circumcision in the land of Esan in a looming dark age of the reign of ignorance in the region.
Society is a colony that must be defended against all odds in the same way the ant defends and provides for its colony. Our individual determination and contribution to defend the wellbeing of our nation is the key solution to the prosperity of our societies in all spheres. An unbiased approach to ensure the survival of our nation is the sure route to having and maintaining life and property security, food security, job security, health security, basic amenities security, environment security, business security, governance security, etc.
The biggest harm is not the one others caused you but the one you do to yourself either through commitment or omission. Ignorance of the knowledge of one’s living condition in connection with the situation of governance settings is the cardinal reason most people feel unconcerned with the affairs of their society. There is no way you can separate leadership system from your individual living condition, which will linger on to affect the type of society you shall pass unto your children. They are so intertwined that the former dictates the outcome of the latter.
The accumulative effects of bad governance and the huge stealing of public wealth are what brought about the Failed State Status of our nation today, which has crippled our economy, justice system, security efficiency, unity, and has caused distrust that fuels selfishness, destructive tribalism and retrogressive religious struggles.
The purpose of life is to live a life of purpose. If you don’t pay attention, you will end up in detention. No two ways about it! The activities in your society should be of utmost concern to you. How the ship of your society is sailed should be of high interest to you for when the ship is wrongly driven to doom, you will drown alongside the ship.
Please note this: There is no wisdom in the beautification of our individual cabins in a sinking ship. SAVE THE AFRICAN SHIP!
A Lancelot Imasuen’s Movie, ‘EDEWEDE’, also referred to as ‘WEDE’, featuring a beautiful talented star, Oge Okoye, who championed a cause to terminate the evil blade of circumcision in a primitive era, when women had no say in the affairs of the traditions of Esan land. She risked it all and was willing to give up her life for a cause she passionately believed in. She was brow-beated, threatened, harassed and labelled an evil one. She lost her beautiful marriage and was banished from the land. But her action sparked the minds of other women in the society to join her in the struggle against an evil blade that had caused many deaths, sicknesses, sorrows and pains in the land. They birthed a solution to starve the men of their marital merriment. And at the end, the evil blade of circumcision was banished while EDEWEDE was given a heroic welcome back to the land.
In her moments of pains, her night was darker than a million midnights. She got a spark through passion, paved a way through ambition, with dedication, attracted the concerns and commitment of others and freedom was achieved for the girl child. The action of Oge Okoye justified the saying, ‘WHERE THERE IS A WILL, THERE IS ALWAYS A WAY’.
The evil blade terrorising the wellbeing of our people today, that we must join hands to enforce its banishment from our society is corruption. Our commitment towards this noble cause will fizzle out criminals and avaricious misfits from the corridors of powers. A draconian penalty against corrupt public office holders must be enforced, agitated for and sponsored to bring sanity back to our nation.

Societal condition is naturally apportioned to men according to their dominating beliefs. What we believe determines what we behave and what we behave inevitably midwifes what we become. We must accept the responsibility of the situation in our nation. It is not only the fault of the destroyer. Guilty is he/she also who watches the destruction without doing something positive to stop it. When you point an accusing finger of blame, three other index fingers will be pointing at you to substantiate that 25 percent of the problems may come from external bodies while the 75 percent remains your fault. And the eye-opening THUMB FINGER will be facing the ground to buttress the fact that it is never too late to study the case intensively for a desired solution.
In Martin Luther King’s Letter from Birmingham Jail, April 16, 1963, he wrote, “The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy. The true neighbour will risk his position, his prestige, and even his life for the welfare of others”.
Conclusion: If you can’t pay a price, you will end up a prey. And when we shall learn to regard less of ‘I’ and embrace more of ‘US’, we shall be on our way to all round societal rest. THE DAWN OF A NEW DAY.
