From all indications, the center seems to no longer hold in Lagos State chapter of the Labour Party as the entire exco of its Women wing is at the verge of decamping to one of the major opposition parties.
Sources within the state chapter of Labour Party told our Correspondent that the present crisis rocking the party is as a result of the repressive manner the State Woman Leader, Mrs Titi Oworu and her executive members are being treated by some influential members of the party in the state who want to install their cronies.
It was gathered that the Labour Party’ State Working Committee during its stakeholders meeting at Joel Ogunnaike, Ikeja GRA, Lagos Tuesday 10 January, announced a new EXCO members for the women wing.
With that announcement, party’s SWC sacked Mrs. Oworu as the State Women Leader, and replaced her with Hajia Aminat Usman.
This action, it was learnt, did not go down well with majority of the Women folks who were worried that the aggrieved LP women who already getting entreaties from other parties in the state who have been monitoring the disenchantment among the women in the party, could easily be lured away finally.
Investigations revealed that aggrieved Oworu and her very strong team are ready to leave the party and go with her formidable structures as well as throw in the towel on all Labour Party activities.
“Majority of the women members are ready to leave the party to show loyalty to their principal. Due to all the physical and monetary efforts Oworu has put into mobilization and harmonization of various structures, followership for the party especially at the grassroots have peaked from last year,” a source told this medium.
The source added; “She (Oworu) has been spending her personal money supported by her mobilisation team to promote the party and canvass for membership at grassroots in Lagos. Already, there is a threat of mass protests coming up in Lagos by the aggrieved female members of the parties with some ready to protest half naked.”
Meanwhile, the main opposition parties in the State is waiting in the wing and want to seize the opportunity to move Oworu (the mother of popular Nollywood Actor, Olumide Oworu, known as Tari in the television sitcom, The Johnsons) and her team to their camps alongside her women/structures.
“This is a critical period in the life of the party to allow for mass movements to another. It will be a huge loss to the ambition of Mr Peter Obi if the women wing is allowed to scattered at this critical period in a crucial mass populated state like Lagos,” the source concluded.
