Those calling for the return of Vincent Enyeama to the Super Eagles may never see their dream materialised as Senator Obinna Ogba, Chairman , Senate Committee on Sports has revealed how the Lille of France goalkeeper despised the leadership of the upper chambers in Abuja during the tenure of Sunday Oliseh as the Chief coach of the national team.

According to Senator Ogba, when Enyeama decided suddenly  to end his international romance with the Super Eagles on the account of the irreconcilable differences between him and Oliseh , he was not comfortable with Enyeama’s decision, so he had to call him on phone to rescind the decision in the interest of the nation, but the shot stopper was adamant .

He further said that he had to brief the Senate President, Bukola Saraki to intervene on the matter of which Senator Saraki  waded into the matter. Unfortunately , when he  called Enyeama again and told him that the Senate President wanted to talk to him on the matter , the Akwa Ibom state born goal keeper switched off the phone and that was how the matter die till today.

To this effect, Senator Ogba said that the Super Eagles are bigger than any player and he hopes that Gernot Rohr will provide solution to the goalkeeping crisis in the team in the absence of Carl Ikeme, who is having treatment for blood cancer.

” Vincent Enyeama said he will not be in goal for Nigeria and when I tried to talk him out of it, he was resolute on his decision. I even informed the Senate President , His Excellency, Senator Bukola Saraki and he was ready to speak to Enyeama on the matter. I called Enyeama that Senate President wanted to speak to him on the matter , but he switched off and that was the end of the matter,” Senator Ogba said.

He added that “Gernot Rohr must work with players who are ready to give their all for their fatherland ahead of the game with Cameroon. Carl Ikeme is out of the game , but Nigeria is blessed with good goalkeepers, there is no doubt, but Enyeama is not ready again for Super Eagles , so no need to bother him”.

The Super Eagles will file out against the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon in a Russia 2018 World Cup qualifying game  on Friday September 1 at the Godswill Akpabio stadium, Uyo. Nigeria is topping the group with 6 points and her closest rival, Cameroon is trailing behind with 2 points from the same number of games played .
