Female Company Staff Docked For  Refusing To Remit N3.9m Realized From Sales

A female company staff, Fawole Taiwo, has been arrested and charged in Lagos State for allegedly refusing to remit N3.9m realized from sales of company’s goods to the manager and converting the money to personal use. 

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at between November and December, 2024, at Abox Company located at Sule Ewenla Street, Ijegun area of Lagos, where she was employed as a staff.

According to the Police,  the suspect collected undisclosed quantity of goods to sell for the company to remit the money to the manager for onward payment to the company’s account.

However, for the past two months, she collected the goods and sold them but refused to remit the money to the manager without any explaination as she wanted the manager to forget about the money.

The matter was reported to the Police at Isheri Oshun Division. She was arrested and detained at the station for interrogation over her alleged conduct.

After rounds of interrogation,  the Police found her culpable and charged her before the Ejigbo Magistrate Court for the alleged offence.

The charges read:

COUNT I:”That you, Fawole Taiwo, f, between November/December 2024 at No. 7 Sule Ewenla Street, ljegun, in the Lagos magisterial district, did conduct yourself in a way and manner likely to cause a breach of the peace by refusing to remit money realized from the sales of goods to the manager of Abox Company, and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 168 (d) criminal law of Lagos state of Nigeria 2015.”

COUNT II:”That you, Fawole Taiwo on the same period, place and time in the aforementioned magisterial district, did collect goods worth (M3,939,000.00) three million nine hundred and thirty nine thousand Naira only, from Abox Company and converted same money to your own personal use after sales, and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 287 criminal law of Lagos Nigeria 2015.”

COUNT III:”That you, Fawole Taiwo, on the same period, place and time in the aforementioned magisterial district, did forge the old receipt, which you used to pay for the previous goods collected from the same Abox Company instead of current payment receipt to fool the company, and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 363(1) criminal law of Lagos Nigeria 2015.”

She pleaded not guilty when she was arraigned.

The prosecutor, Inspector Simeon Njue, asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence that brought him before the Court.

The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. A.K. Dosumu-Uthman, granted her bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will be verified by the Court.

The matter was adjourned till 9th January, 2024, for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when she will perfect her bail conditions.
