Fleeing Security Man Arrested In Benue For Allegedly Stealing Lagos Employer’s N16m Property

The Police Operatives at the Ikoyi Division of the Lagos State Police Command, have arrested a fleeing Security man in Gboko, Benue State who allegedly stole his employer’s N16m properties in Ikoyi, Lagos and fled.

The suspect, Henry Hemen Hungwua, 30, allegedly betrayed the trust reposed in him by his employer, NICOM Development And Investment Limited to steal its properties including a Nissan truck valued at N7 million; a Hilux van with registration number PST 39 CL valued at N8 million; refrigerator valued at N550,000; Microwave oven worth N350,000; and two rectifier valued at N250,000 all total N16 million and fled to  Benue State.

Following the development, the complainant reported the matter to the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Ikoyi Division, Ikoyi, Lagos, CSP Arit Abang who swiftly directed his crack team to fish out the fleeing suspect anywhere he might be hiding and recover the stolen properties from him.

Following the directives, the Police team swung into action and tracked the suspect to Gboko, Benue State where he was arrested and brought back to Lagos.

After investigation by ASP Itafor Ernest and his team, the suspect was charged before the Tinubu Magistrate’s Court, Lagos on a two-count charge bordering on conspiracy and stealing.

Police Prosecuting Counsel, Inspector Ishola Samuel told the Court in the charge marked TB/28/2025 that the defendant committed the offence between January and April 2024 at 22, Chris Ali Crescent, Abacha Estate, Ikoyi, Lagos.

Samuel informed the Court that the defendant who was employed by the complainant to protect properties later turned out  to the suspected thief inside who swept his employer’s properties valued at N16 million and escaped to Benue State where he was arrested.

He said the offences committed were punishable under Sections 411 and 287(7) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The defendant, however pleaded not guilty to the charges and Magistrate, A.A Paul grunted him N500,000 bail with two sureties in like sum.

Magistrate Paul adjourned the case till August 28, 2025 for mention and ordered that the defendant be detained at the Ikoyi Correctional facility till he perfected the bail.
