Gateway Games: Team Lagos’ Superior Statement In Boxing Becoming Louder By The Day

The ongoing 22nd National Sports Festival In Abeokuta, Ogun State is another opportunity for Team Lagos to show their supremacy in the pugilist trade once again, and they are making the statement louder by the day as the boxing event of the Gateway Games 2024 gathers momentum.

Boxers of the Centre of Excellence have been having their ways to victories since the boxing event started at the Baptist High School in the ancient city of Abeokuta.

There have been many bouts won in both the male and female categories, giving the state high hope that there will be usual medal haul in the sport.

Results of Friday’s fights laid credence to this as Idowu Mistura beat her Borno opponent, Rita Oyeleye in the F-48kg bout. Lagos State’s Adeshina Zainab also defeated Udoette Happiness from Bayelsa in the female 51kg fight, while Adekinwonsa Aina defeated Patience Odebeyi of Kaduna in F-54 bout.

Ajishola Khadijat triumphed over Oyeleye Mistrust of Kaduna during their F-57kg fight. Olomitutu Michael was too much for Olli Henry from the FCT as he won their M-88kg bout.

All the boxers with the victories progress to the next stage of the boxing event which continues on Saturday.
