Governor Otti Applauds Don Media Group Boss Mayor Igbokwe For Launching Twin Radio Stations

Posted on June 30, 2025

The Governor of Abia State, Dr. Alex Otti, has commended Mayor Lucky Igbokwe, Chairman of Don Media Group, for his visionary investment in two newly launched radio stations: Don FM 103.7 and Ikoro FM 93.3 in Umuawa Alocha, Umuahia North Local Government Area.

Speaking at the official unveiling ceremony over the weekend, Governor Otti, represented by his Senior Special Assistant on Special Duties, Dr. George Chidozie, described the initiative as a reflection of the Governor’s infrastructural revolution and the positive business climate emerging under the New Abia agenda.

“This is the kind of development we envisioned — one where individuals return home to invest in their communities,” said Dr. Chidozie. “What Mayor Lucky Igbokwe has done is not only commendable but truly emblematic of Igbo values: building for the benefit of your people. These stations will create jobs, amplify local voices, and deepen the sense of identity in this region.”

He called on the community to safeguard the radio facilities, noting that they would serve as a lifeline for local employment, youth engagement, and cultural preservation.

During his address, Mayor Lucky Igbokwe, popularly known as Don Lulu and a United Nations Mayor of Peace Ambassador, expressed that the mission of Don Media Group is to become the leading grassroots broadcast hub in the Southeast, where “tradition meets technology and our identity is amplified, not erased.”

“Our goal is to empower young people through training in media and entertainment, to foster dialogue, broadcast honest, community-focused news, and preserve the rich heritage of the Igbo culture,” Igbokwe emphasized.

Adding glitz and star power to the historic launch, Nigerian music superstar David Adeleke (aka Davido) led a cast of prominent entertainers in a concert at the Umuahia Township Stadium.

The performance, organized by Don Media Group, celebrated the milestone and energized local youth.

In a goodwill message, Davido remarked, “I’m not just here to entertain. I’m here to show support for grassroots media, for authentic African storytelling, and for platforms like Don FM and Ikoro FM that give voice to our people.”

The launch ceremony featured vibrant cultural displays, traditional performances, and a convergence of notable figures from across the entertainment, business, and media industries — including former Inspector General of Police, Sir Mike Okiro.

The twin stations, now broadcasting to commercial and rural audiences, are already being hailed as a beacon of community-driven development in Southeast Nigeria.
