All is now set for Heartland FC of Owerri to represent the South East in the Flykite Naija Super 8 tournament.
The Naze millionaires will participate in the draws for the tournament this Friday, which is billed for the Super Sport Studios in Lagos.
The ceremony will witness the unveiling of the 12 participating teams from the six geo-political zones of the country as well as the rules of engagement for this iconic competition.
Speaking to the media, Heartland’s General Manager, Mr. Promise Nwachukwu, appreciated the fans for their massive support to the team assuring that the team will always play for the badge.
“Our fans have been very supportive even in difficult times, the love passion and commitment is unprecedented. You need to see how they travel with the team, how they have voted massively for us to participate in the Super 8. I cannot thank the fans enough.”
Mr. Nwachukwu, alongside Heartland fans, showered encomiums on the Honourable Sports Commissioner, Hon Emeka Okoronkwo, for his midas touch, which has revamped the fortunes of the club.
“I will not fail to acknowledge the untiring efforts of my Commissioner for Sports, the man with the midas touch, his zeal and appetite for success is worthy of emulation.
The management of Heartland is super grateful to him for all his sacrifices to return the team to the top flight.
In another related development Heartland FC of Owerri has also qualified for the NNL Super 8, in her bid to return to the elite division. The Naze millionaires qualified in an imperious fashion, leading her group (B4) with an unassailable lead of 21 points while staying unbeaten in the process.
To put it into perspective, the Naze millionaires are unbeaten in 15 games this season making her one of the best from the South East.
It is therefore, well deserved that the scientific soccer boys have earned a place to represent the South East in the Naija Super 8 tournament.
Sadly, Heartland FC exited the Federation Cup yesterday in controversial circumstances at the Awka City Stadium.
Despite the unfortunate blip in Awka, the team has its sights on the prize and thus will not be derailed in the quest to make Imo people and her teeming fans happy. The five time Champions are truly set for a comeback!
