When the management of Grand International School, Igando area of Lagos, employed a 60-year old man, Onovhiere Friday, as security guard, they did not know they have engaged the services of dubious character to secure the school.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that shortly after the man, Friday, was engaged, the school properties began to disappear and when asked, he claimed that they must have been carted away by thieves at nights.

Later, the school secretly mounted CCTV without the knowledge of the guard, Mr. Friday, at the school premises located at Olaoluwa Street, Egan, Igando.

As usual at night, the guard, Mr. Friday, again carted away properties on 6th January, 2022. Among the items missing were 18 pieces of ceiling fans, LG television, cable wires, power generating set and other items worth N750,000 belonging to the school.

In the morning, when the management resumed for work and saw what happened, they went to CCTV and played it back and they saw Mr. Friday dismantling the missing items. He was summoned and the CCTV was played for him; he saw himself loosing those items and carting them away.

He then confessed to be the thief that had been looting properties in the school and pleaded for forgiveness. The school management handed him over to the Police at Igando Division and he was detained for interrogation over his conduct.

At the Police Station, he reportedly confessed to the crime. And having been found culpable, he was subsequently charged before the Ejigbo Magistrate Court for conspiracy and stealing.

When he was arraigned, he pleaded not guilty.

The prosecutor, Inspector Simeon Njue, asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove he actually committed the alleged offence.

The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. A.S. Okunbule, granted him bail in the sum of N300,000 with two sureties in like sum.

The matter was adjourned till 28th February, 2022, for mention while the defendant was remanded in correctional centre at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
