Police Operatives from the FCT, Abuja, have intercepted a white Peugeot J5 bus (registration number KMC 283 ZJ) along the Abuja-Kano route, carrying 59 children suspected to have been trafficked from Kano State.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the interception occurred on 6th January, 2025, at approximately 3:30 pm, led by Deputy Superintendent of Police Sarki Umar.

The bus was en route to Nasarawa State, allegedly transporting the children under suspicious circumstances.
The children, aged between 4 and 12, came from various families and were reportedly being taken by one Idris Usman to an unnamed man in Nasarawa State.

Usman, who claimed to be a teacher with over 40 years of experience, said he intended to train the children. However, Police investigations suggested otherwise, as there was no parental consent or documentation for their movement.

This was disclosed by the Commissioner of Police for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), CP Olatunji Disu, who confirmed that arrests have been made. He assured the public that efforts are underway to reunite the children with their families.

“This incident has been classified as a case of suspected child abuse and trafficking due to the circumstances surrounding the transportation of the minors.”

“The driver, Usman, and his assistant, Al Hassan Ibrahim, both from Kano State, are currently in custody alongside the children and the vehicle.”

“The FCT Police Command is collaborating with the Social Development Secretariat (SDS) to ensure the children’s safe return to their families. A comprehensive investigation is ongoing to hold all those involved accountable.” CP Disu stated.

The Police boss emphasized the commitment of the Police to protecting vulnerable groups, particularly children, in line with the Child’s Right Act of 2003. He also urged parents and guardians to remain vigilant and prioritize their children’s safety.

Disu stated that the suspects will be charged before the Court for the alleged offence but that will be after the conclusion of investigations by the Police.
