A Sharia Court Judge in Kaduna, Malam Salisu Abubakar-Tureta, has offered to pay N100,000 dowry to assist an undergraduate, Salisu Salele, to get married to his heartthrob, Bilkisu Lawal, after Bilkisu’s mother filed a suit before the Court against Salisu to leave her daughter or get married to her.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that Bilikisu’s mother, Rayila Lawal, had dragged Salele before the Court asking it to compel him to get married to her daughter if he truly loves her or leave her if he was not ready for marriage.
Mrs. Rayila told the Court that they live in the same area and Salele has been coming to meet her daughter without their consent as her parents and she had met his mother to notify her about the issue and his mother said her son was not ready for marriage.
“Salele changed tactics and stopped visiting my daughter but continued calling her on phone to meet him at appointed places. I don’t want him to spoil the good upbringing I gave my daughter over the years, hence my decision to bring him to Court,’’ Rayila said.
She reiterated that she was ready to give her daughter out in marriage if Salele was ready.
In his defence, Salele said he loved the girl but that he would not be ready for marriage until two years’ time.
“I am an undergraduate studying in one of the Federal universities and will not want to be distracted by marriage. Besides, I don’t have dowry and I am still living with my parents,’’ Salele told the Court.
The Presiding Judge, having heard the parties in the suit, made the offer to pay the bride price for Salele since he stated that loved the girl but had no money to pay her bride price for the fact that he was still an undergraduate.
He told Salele to go and think about the offer and report back to the Court about his decision on the proposal by the Court while the case was adjourned till 6th September, 2022, for continuation of hearing on the matter.
