Kidsport Charity Cup Season 14 Loading, 16 Teams Storm Campos Stadium Lagos on 18 December
The stage is now set for the organization of the 14th edition of the Kidsport Charity Cup which holds on 18 December 2024 at the Campos Sports Complex on Lagos Island.
The Kidsport Charity Cup is a one-day event that brings together kids from orphanage homes, football academies, and secondary schools to compete in a variety of sports. The event aims to help kids discover their talents and bring them to the forefront.
The organisers and the sponsors led by KingMakers say it will leave nothing to chance to ensure that they put in a glamorous and memorable one-day tournament designed to celebrate the God-given gifts in the lives of the orphans and other less privileged kids in the society.
At a media conference to herald the Season 14 edition of the Kidsport Charity Cup held at the Corporate Headquarters of KingMakers in Lagos on Wednesday, Mrs Bukola Alabi, who has been organizing the tournament since 2012, said that the competition, since inception has produced wonderful kids who grown up to be remarkable adults, will be organised with new innovation this year.
According to her, there will be a fusion of gaming into the event in this Season 14, adding that while football is being played on the field, gaming will be on display off the field spiced with exotic foods for the participants.
Mrs Alabi also revealed that for the first time, female teams will feature in the tournament.
“There will be six teams from the orphanage homes, six from football academies and four female teams.
The orphanage homes teams include SOS Children’s Home, Isolo, SOS Children’s Home, Owu, Project Friendship Initiative, Citadel of Grace Homes, Street To School Welfare Homes and Habitation of Hope.
The football academies are Dazzle FC, Right To Smile Academy, Alimosho FC, Varsity FA, La Caballero FC and Ikorodu City FC, while the female teams include Alimosho FC Ladies, Wasbak Queens, Dazzaz Ladies and Edufoots FC Ladies.
“The Kidsport Charity Cup is all about gender inclusion that carries everyone along and gives all kids that sense of belonging,” Alabi said.
The organizers disclosed that handsome prizes will be given to the overall winners, first and second runners up, while all the participating orphanage homes will be given different sets of gift items.
To the title sponsor, KingMakers, represented by its Communications Manager, Onu Abraham at the press conference, Kidsport Charity Cup’s agenda is in tandem with the corporate mission of the company, as KingMakers is known for building platforms for people irrespective of who you are.
“We will continue to support grassroots sports and use our resources to support Kidsport Charity Cup,” Onu said.
Dotun Coker, the vice chairman of Lagos State Football Association (LSFA), who represented the chairman of the FA at the event, noted that Kidsport Charity Cup since 2012 has carved a niche for itself as a football tournament that has been given the orphans and other less privileged a platform to showcase their talent in football.
“The competition has always received the support and the endorsement of the FA. I will commend the organizers and indeed the sponsors, most especially the KingMakers, for this laudable initiative for the orphans in the state,” said Coker.
The Senior Special Assistant (SSA) on Sports Marketing and Administration to the Governor of Lagos State, Mr Onaopepo Adu described the tournament as a good thing that comes for the less privileged in Lagos, even as he reiterated the support of the Government of Lagos State for the tournament.
