A leading Pro Democracy group in Kwara State, Kwara Must Change has commended the proactive response of Nigeria Police Force to the misconduct of some of the bad eggs within the force by dismissing 2 errand officers and sanctioning 8 others, who were found to be involved in acts of indiscipline and criminality.
It also urges more citizens who were mistreated by police officers to report such mistreatment to the authority.
In a statement by Convener of Kwara Must Change, Abdulrazaq Hamzat, the group stated that the action of the police authority is highly commendable and goes a long way to restore public trust in the leadership of the police in the state.
Hamzat explained that, Kwara Must Change has criticized police in the past when it observed certain misconduct from some police officers, it therefore has nothing but praise for the police authority over the recent improvement and proactiveness.
According to him, Police are important people in the society who should hold themselves to higher standards, but it’s unfortunate that the conducts of some officers have made the police to be seen as unbefitting, a perception that must be changed with consistent and delibrate action by the police.
Recall that the Kwara State Police Command, on Saturday, dismissed four officers for misconducts and sanctioned eight others for related offences.
The officers were alleged to have illegally arrested a suspect, took him to his bank at Zenith bank, Unity road, Ilorin, where he was made to empty his bank account, withdrawing the sum of N1,190,000 which the dismissed officers collected from him.
Not done, they again demanded and insisted on the sum of N200,000 bail which they also collected from members of the suspect’s family before releasing him.
Hamzat therefore advised that, Police officers on the need to see themselves as model in the society who should not be seen involved in the same behaviour they are to prevent in the society
