Lady, 19, Arrested For Selling Her Baby For N250,000 To Owerri Based Baby Merchant

Police operatives from the Gender Section of the Lagos State Command have arrested a a 19-year old lady, Seyi Lawal, who was delivered of a baby girl and she sold same to a baby merchant, identified as Chinyere, living in Owerri, Imo State, for the sum of N250,000.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened under the bridge at Jibowu, Yaba area of Lagos, before it was foiled by the Police.

Both the lady, Lawal and her accomplice, Augustine Nwando, 42, were arrested for the alleged offence.

According to Police sources, the lady, Lawal, got pregnant and was delivered of the baby, which she nursed for two years but was finding it difficult to take care of the baby. 

She then decided to sell the baby and arranged with Augustine Nwando. The buyer, Chinyere, who is now on the run, was contacted and she bougbt the baby for the said amount. 

Her accomplice, Augustine Nwando, was said to have arranged with Chinyere to buy the baby and they went under the bridge at Jibowu to wrap up the transaction before they were caught by the Police.

P.M.EXPRESS scooped that during interrogation, the lady, Lawal, confessed that she was finding it difficult to take care of the baby and so she decided to sell her to a willing buyer.

However, the Police found them culpable and subsequently charged both before the Ogba Magistrates Court for human trafficking.

They pleaded not guilty. 

The prosecutor, Inspector Lucky Ihiehie, asked the Court to give a date for hearing to enable the Police to prove that they actually committed the alleged offence.

The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. A.O. Adelaja, granted them bail in the sum of N300,000 each with two sureties in like sum.

They were remanded in Correctional Centre at Kirikiri town pending when their bail will be perfected. 
The matter was adjourned till 6th December, 2021, for mention.
