Lady, 21, Remanded In Custody For Using N8m To Play Failed Sports Bet

A 21-year old lady, Titilayo Adeleye, has been arrested and charged in Lagos State for allegedly using his employer’s N8m to play a game with Doxbet sports-betting Nigeria Limited and she failed to win. 
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at Barts Hotel, Modupeola Street, Iyana Ipaja, Alimosho area of Lagos.
According to the Police, the lady was employed by Doxbet sport-betting company. She used the money she realized for the company and went to the hotel to stake it with the hope that she will win.
However, when the result came out, she did not win anything and when the management asked her to render account of the money in her possession, she told the management that she had used the money to stake a bet and it failed.
The matter was reported to the Gowon Estate Division. She was arrested and detained at the station for interrogation over the money. And while there, she informed the Police that she used the money to stake the bet but it failed.
The Police found her culpable and charged before the Ogba Magistrate Court for the alleged offence under the Criminal law of Lagos State.
The charges read:
COUNT 1: “That you, Titilayo Adeleye “F” and one other on the 16th day of November, 2024, at about 1900hrs at Barts Hotel, Modupeola Street, Iyana Ipaja, Alimosho, Lagos, in the Ikeja Magisterial District, did conspire together to commit felony to wit: conspiracy and stealing and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 411 and punishable under Section 411 of the criminal law of the Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”
COUNT 2:”That you, Titilayo Adeleye “F” and one other on the same date, time and place in the aforementioned Magisterial District, did steal the sum of Eight million Naira (N8,000,000.00) only property of Doxbet sport-betting Nigeria Limited by using same amount to play sport-betting from Doxbet account without the consent of the mahagement and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 280 and punishable under Section 287 of the criminal law of the Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”
She pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Supol Akeem Raji, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since she pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that she actually committed the alleged offence which attracts several years of imprisonment.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. Of. Kusanu, granted her bail with two sureties, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will be verified by the Court.
The matter was adjourned for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when she will perfect her bail conditions.
