Lady, 35, Docked For Stealing N5.3m From Man Under False Pretence

A 35-year old lady, Akinbode Yemisi, has been arrested and charged in Lagos State for allegedly swindling a man, Daniel Omoregie, to the tune of N5. 3m under false pretence. 

 

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at Ikola Road, Alagbado area of Lagos State.

 

The Police however, did not disclose the kind of business the lady and complainant transacted which made him to give her such huge sum of money.

 

According to the Police, the lady, Yemisi, had on 4th July, 2024, obtained the money from Omoregie and escaped.

The matter was reported to the Police at Alagbado Division. The operatives arrested Yemisi and detained her at the station for interrogation over the alleged offence.

The Police found her culpable after interrogation and consequently charged her before the Ogba Magistrate Court for the alleged offence.

Part of the charges read:

COUNT 1: That you Akinbode Yemisi ‘F’ on the 4th day of July, 2024, at about 1000hrs at No 74 Ikola Road, Alagbado, Lagos State, in Ikeja Magisterial District did steal the sum of Five Million Three hundred thousand Naira only N5,300,000 belonging to one Daniel Omoregie ‘m’ and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under section 287 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos state of Nigeria 2015.”

 

COUNT II: – That you Akinbode Yemisi ‘F’ same date, time and place in the aforementioned magisterial district did unlawful obtained the sum of Five Million Three hundred thousand Naira N5. 300,000 belonging to one Daniel Omoregie ‘m’ and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 314 of criminal Laws of Lagos state of Nigeria 2015.

 

However, she pleaded not guilty.

 

The Prosecutor, Supol Akeem Raji, asked the Court to give a date for hearing since she pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that she actually committed the alleged offence.

 

The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. B.O. Osunsanmi, granted her bail with two sureties, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will be verified by the Court.

 

The matter was adjourned for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when she will perfect her bail conditions.
