Lagos Anglican Girls Grammar School Class of ’82 Set Plans Big 40th Anniversary Celebration

The Old Girls Alumni of Lagos Anglican Girls’ Grammar School, Surulere, Class of 1982, are all set to celebrate the 40th Anniversary of their leaving the school.

In a press release signed by one of LAGGS old girls, Mrs Susan Eyo Honesty- Ikpe, Publisher of Glam and Essence Magazine and Chairman of the Media Subset of the Anniversary Committee, starting from January 2022, the events to mark the anniversary will kick off with a Thanksgiving Celebration at the Founder’s Day Church service to hold on January 27, at the school chapel in the premises.

“Our 40th Anniversary is a special event, because it is an opportunity to reunite with our old friends and classmates and reminisce on our time as students of LAGGS. It is also a good time to show our gratitude for the sound educational foundation we received as students of this great school”, explained Mrs Susan Eyo Ikpe.

As part of activities planned, members of the set will pay a courtesy visit to their two octogenarian principals, Mrs Benson (1978-1981) and Mrs Labode (1981- 1998) to thank them for their guidance and mentorship.

According to Eyo Ikpe, “Our set is unique because we had the privilege of having two principals during our years in school and we are thankful they are both still alive to witness the results of their training in our lives.”

The LAGGS 82 set equally plans to install new ceiling fans in all 32 classes of the Classroom Block and launch the 1982 LAGGS Education Endowment Fund (LEEF 82) with a seed fund of N2million to support the school’s efforts on Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (STEAM) Education.

President of the set, Mrs Sola Salako-Ajulo, said, “We plan to provide additional education support for current girls in STEAM Education to increase the numbers of girl child career choices in these areas.

“Our intervention will include Extra Coaching; Intra School Competitions, State, National & International Competitions; Excursions; Teacher Skills Enhancement & Infrastructure SupportOur goal is to improve the learning outcomes of the students in STEAM education in order to increase the numbers who will pursue careers in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts & Mathematics thus improving the statistics of female professionals in that sphere. The LEEF project will be an annual support project from the 1982 set.”

Other activities planned throughout 2022 to celebrate the 40th anniversary include, a Girl Child Education Symposium in May, two class reunion events for UK based members in June, and US based members in July and an End of Year Gala/Fashion Show slated for November 2022.
