The Lagos State Judo Association with facilitating support from Lagos State Sports Commission is currently organising an Under-17 Judo Slam Championship at the Mobolaji Johnson Sports Centre, Rowe Park, Yaba.
The championship is being organised to discover new judokas and nurture them towards representing Lagos State in future competitions especially as there is need to replace the dwindling pool of aged athletes.
According to the Secretary of the Lagos State Judo Association, Mojisola Aluko, the objective of the event is to enhance grassroots sports development through discovery and grooming of talented students in consonance with the State Government’s of making Lagos a sports hub in Africa.
The  Under-17 Judo Slam Championship would also serve as an avenue for the association to keep a tab on the strength, level of preparedness and scout for prospects to replenish the pool of athletes in Judo from both public and private primary, junior and secondary schools in the Education District IV and Education District II with a target participants of 400 students (male and female ) from 40 schools to take part in the competition which ends on Wednesday.
