Lagos School Hockey Tourney: Igbooye Community High School Lands In Final

The male team of Igbooye Community High School, Epe has qualified for the final of the 2nd Lagos State Secondary Schools Hockey Championship which is ongoing at the Campos mini Stadium on Lagos Island.

The finals in both boys and girls categories hold on Friday.

The boys from Epe beat their counterparts from St. Patrick’s Grammar School Eredo, Epe by a lone goal on Wednesday.

The competition recorded walked over in other matches in the boys category on Wednesday as Eletu Odibo Senior High School, Bariga, walked over C. M. S. Grammar School, Bariga, St. Patrick walked over Igbaja Boys Senior Secondary school, Surulere, while Igbooye Community High School also walked over King’s College, Lagos.

In the girls category, Igbooye Community High, School, Epe beat Marywood Girls College, Ebute Metta West 5-0, Surulere Girls Secondary School defeated EUBA Junior Secondary School, Mushin 2-0.

The competition,organized by the Lagos State Sports Commission and the State Hockey Association was planned for all secondary schools (public and private) in the state to discover potential hockey players in secondary schools across the state.

To the Executive Chairman, Lagos State Sports Commission, Dr Kweku Adedayo Tandoh, the competition is one of many grassroots sports development competitions for secondary schools in Lagos State that Governor Akinwunmi Ambode approved with funding in order to encourage students participation in sports and discovery of budding talents for the state.

“His Excellency, Governor Akinwunmi Ambode recently gave approval for us to organize some school sports competitions. This hockey tourney is one of them, the other ones will come in succession, ” he said.

Winning schools in both the male and female categories will be rewarded with fabulous prizes such as Sports equipments , Hockey balls and Hockey Sticks. While individual players will be given medals and certificates of participations.

Also prizes will be given to the Most Valuable Players (MVP) in the male and female categories, Best Defenders, Best Behave Teams, and Best Goalkeepers (male and female) and Highest Goal Scorer (male and female).Lagos Organises Secondary Schools Hockey Championship At Campos Stadium.
