Lagos Sports Commission Breaks 35 Years Jinx, To Involve Education Secretaries In Sports Planning At Primary School Level

Lagos State Sports Commission has broken a jinx of 35 years by beginning to involve Education Secretaries in all the local government areas in the state in the development of sports.

Lagos State Government moved a step further in its bid to bring an all-inclusive development into sports in the State with a joint meeting of Lagos State Sports Commission (LSSC), Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board (LASUBEB) and Education Secretaries on the need to bring Sports back to curriculum in Lagos State.

The meeting, which also had the President of Nigeria School Sports Federation, Olabisi Joseph in attendance, was held Friday at the Teslim Balogun Stadiun in Surulere.

The Education Secretaries confirmed at the meeting that for over 35 years, they have not been recognized compared to what is happening today to discuss on grassroots sports and planning for sports development in Lagos State.

The Education Secretaries noted that the meeting is a right step in the right direction. They all pledged to work together with the Lagos State Sports Commission and Lagos State State Universal Basic Education Board in bringing sports back to the primary schools in Lagos like it used to be .

While welcoming the Stakeholders into the meeting, the Executive Chairman, Lagos State Sports Commission, Mr. Sola Aiyepeku said: “It is important that we rebuild the foundation of sports in Lagos State from the primary school level and we must be on the same page with the Education Secretaries in all the Local government areas in Lagos.”

He assured that the Education Secretaries would always be involved from the planning stage of any Programme on sports for primary schools from the beginning to implementation stage.

“We must have a common goal in order to form a stronger force in Sports development in Lagos State at the Primary School level . The aim is to bring Sports back to Curriculum in Lagos through participation and competitions .

“We are committed to working together towards making our children in the primary schools to understand why sports is very important,” Aiyepeku said.

Representative of Chairman of LASUBEB, Mrs. Olajumoke Bakare pledged the support of the Board to jointly work together with all stakeholders to make sports at the primary school level in Lagos solid and a success story.

“We are in it together and we shall succeed,” Bakare said.

To the President, Nigeria School Sports Federation, Olabisi Joseph, “Education Secretaries are very key in making the vision of the Lagos State Government through the Lagos State Sports Commission, a reality by including Sports in the Curriculum from the primary school level.”
