Lagos Women Run, Gov Sanwo-Olu’s Effort To Promote Women Inclusion In Sports – Aiyepeku

Executive Chairman of Lagos State Sports Commission, Sola Aiyepeku has described the Lagos Women Run as the conscious effort of the Government of Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu to drive inclusiveness in sports development in the state.
According to Aiyepeku, the inclusion of women in all strata of life is part of the Lagos State Government’s “THEMES” agenda which is now being extended to sports, adding that this golden opportunity is another milestone of the present administration in promoting an egalitarian society.
Aiyepeku emphatically said that the Lagos Women Run, which the sixth edition holds on Saturday, 13 November 2021, is a very strong indicator that this tournament will also be popular, apart from Football, on a big level very soon.
“Women Run is very important in the scheme of things, it will expose and give an exciting open race. The 10km race is the most easily participated race globally because it is not too long.
“This is a race that strongly helps to sustain a healthy lifestyle and a running culture. The more we promote Women Run, the more races will come up.
“The vision of the race is to bring women together with all different kinds of causes, competing in a healthy environment. So, the more competitive it grows, the more the global influence will be, as many people will come from all over Africa and the rest of the world to participate in the race”.

Convener of the Lagos Women Run, Tayo Popoola, revealed that the 6th edition will take a new dimension by showcasing Lagos State in a different light.
“Lagos is full of unique things. We will showcase some of the good works of the state government, adding that the race will flag off at the Teslim Balogun Stadium and end at the remodelled Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan on Lagos Island.
