A landlord, Patrick Osibone has been arrested by the police at Ikotun division for attacking his tenant’s wife and stripped her naked during a fight over N300,000 electricity bill.
The incident happened at 21 Makanjuola Street, Hostel bus stop in Agodo, Egbe area of Lagos.
P.M.EXPRESS gathered that the woman, Ogochukwu Okeke was subjected to the abuse over an accumulated electricity bill debt the landlord incurred before they rented an apartment in his house.
Our correspondent gathered that when Ogochukwu’s husband, Charles Okeke discovered that the landlord had incurred such bill, he declined to connect electricity from the landlord’s meters instead went to the electricity distribution company to acquire a private meter.
This caused serious disagreement between Charles and the landlord which affected both families.
According to Charles, when he moved into the house, he discovered that the landlord was owing huge amount of money and just decided to make alternative plans and got his own meter directly from the electricity company.
“Since I separated my apartment from the landlord’s meter, we have not had peace in the compound,” Charles said.
However, the landlord in a chat with our correspondent said that since Charles went and negotiated with the electricity distribution company for his own meter, he has left him so.
But said since he moved into his house, the man and members of his family do not respect him as their landlord while they always abusing him.
He denied that he assaulted Charles’ wife and said the whole thing was a ploy to blackmail him.
However, P.M.EXPRESS gathered that the police recovered the landlord’s sandal inside Charles’ bedroom while he has been unable to explain how the sandal got into his tenant’s bedroom.
When our reporter visited Ikotun police division where the landlord was detained, he was seen writing statement on the alleged assault.
The DPO was not around to comment on the matter, however, police source confirmed the incident and the arrest of the landlord.
Police source said the landlord will be charged to court for the alleged offence if the parties refused amicable settlement of the matter.
