Legacy FC Are Champions Of Victor Ikpeba Football Challenge 2022

Legacy Football Club have emerged the new champion of the Victor Ikpeba Football Challenge Obele Odan 2022 after defeating Odogwu FC 1-0 in the finals with a scintillating goal scored by Yemi Omoniyi, played at the Obele Odan Community Centre, Fujah, off Randle Avenue, Surulere, Lagos.

For emerging new champions, Legacy FC captained by Olalekan Olowoyeye went home with a cash prize of N100,000, gold medals and a gold trophy.

The Charles Odugo-led Odogwu FC for finishing first runners up went home with a cash prize of N70,000.

While Milano Ricco FC defeated Warrior FC captained by Edioye Eguaikhe 2-0 to win the loser’s final and third-place title. Warriors got N50,000 for their efforts and Milano Ricco for placing fourth got a cash prize of N20,000 as a consolation prize.

The Best Goal Award was won by Yemi Omoniyi of Legacy FC. The Best Midfielder Award was carted away by Ndukwu Daniel Chibueze of Odogwu FC, while the Best Defender Award went to Somtochukwu Anozie of Legacy FC.

The Legacy FC team players; Michael Abel, Korede Adebayo, Yemi Omoniyi, Onyeakachi Igbuku, Osa Amoren, Somtochukwu Anozie and Olakekan Olowoyeye were all presented with gold medals by the sponsor of the event, Victor Ikpeba, who was present at the finals.

Ikpeba noted that he was impressed with the standard of play exhibited by all the last four teams in the Competition and he is willing to continue to sponsor the football challenge in Obele Odan Community, Surulere, Lagos which is fast spreading across Nigeria.

“I felt honoured and most delighted for being celebrated by the people of Surulere especially with this Five-A-Side Football competition to commemorate my birthday on June 12. I felt so elated because of the success of the second edition, more so when it is the first time any football Competition is named after me anywhere in the world.”

The 1997 African Footballer of the Year and 1996 Olympic gold medalist noted in his closing remarks that he is committed to making the competition bigger every year.
