A 25-year old man, Alti Audu, has been arrested and charged in Kwara State for allegedly killing his neighbour, Zainab Suleiman, with a cutlass over suspicion of her being the witch behind his ailment.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the suspect, Audu, attacked Zainab with a cutlass, inflicted severe injuries on her body, which eventually led to her death.

The alleged murder was reported to the Police. Audu was arrested and detained at the station for interrogation over his alleged conduct.

During interrogation, he told the Police that he believed that she was a witch responsible for his health issues and he decided to kill her.

He confessed that he took his cutlass on the fateful day and cut her severally inside her room. She bled profusely and was later taken to an undisclosed hospital, where she was confirmed dead.

Zainab’s corpse was deposited at mortuary for autopsy reports while the suspect, Audu, was charged before Magistrate Court for the alleged murder under the Criminal Laws of the State.

The Court did not take his plea following a motion moved by the prosecutor, identified as Mr. Emmanuel, who asked the Court to refer the matter to the DPP for legal advice.

The Presiding Magistrate, Mr. Ibrahim Dasuki, ordered Audu to be held in prison custody for the report of the DPP’s advice to be available and adjourned the matter to 23rd July, 2024.

The report of the DPP’s advice will determine if the matter will be transferred to the High Court or not over jurisdiction.
