A 26-year old man, Ridwan Abdulraheem, has been arrested and charged in Lagos State for allegedly killing his 70-year old father, Adio Basah Abdulraheem, by smashing his head with a wooden chair.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at Goriola Street, Iba area of Lagos, where they reside.
He has been charged before the Ebute Metta Magistrate Court for murder for contravention of Sections 222 and 223 of the Criminal Law of the State, which attracts several years of imprisonment or life imprisonment.
The Police did not disclose why Ridwan decided to murder his father but alleged that he targeted the victim, used the chair to smash his head and he collapsed in the process.
He was taken to an undisclosed hospital and the doctor on duty certified him dead while the corpse was deposited at mortuary for autopsy reports.
The matter was reported to the Police in the area, he was later arrested. He was later transferred to the SCID, Yaba, for further investigation. And after thorough interrogation, the Police found him culpable and consequently charged him before the Court for the alleged offence.
However, the Court did not take his plea when he was arraigned following a motion moved by the prosecutor,  Inspector Abdul Sanusi, asking the Court to refer the matter to the DPP for legal advice because of the nature of the case.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. A.O. Alaka, ordered his remand in custody at the Correctional Centre pending the outcome of the DPP’s advice and directed the prosecutor to duplicate the file and send it to the DPP.
The matter was adjourned for mention for the report of the DPP’s advice to be made available, which will determine if the matter will be transferred to the High Court or not over jurisdiction.
