Man, 28, Docked For Stealing Food Items Inside Motor Park

A 28-year old man, Monday Alex Umeh, has landed in trouble for allegedly stealing food items inside a motor park over the Naira scarcity in Lagos State. 
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at the park of a transport company known as Uyi Motors, located at Ojodu Berger area of Lagos.
According to the Police, the owner, Esther Okwori, bought the items and took them to the company for way billing to the Eastern part of Nigeria. However, the suspect allegedly stole the items and was escaping before the company’s security guards apprehended him.
He was handed over to the Police and was then detained for interrogation over his criminal conduct.
During interrogation, Umeh reportedly admitted to have attempted to steal the items before he was caught by the security guards. He explained to the Police that he had no food at home to eat since the CBN cash policy started and as such he had been hungry for some time due to lack of money to buy food.
The Police found him culpable after interrogation and subsequently charged him before the Ogba Magistrates Court for the alleged offence.
He pleaded not guilty when he was arraigned.
The prosecutor, DSP Kehinde Ajayi, asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. E. Kubenije, granted him bail and ordered his remand in custody pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
The matter was adjourned till 18th April, 2023, for mention.
