A 28-year old man, Adekunle Samuel Ajayi, will be spending the next 18 months in prison custody for entering into University of Lagos, Akoka campus and stealing five mobile phones belonging to five students.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that it was the judgment of the Presiding Magistrate, Mr. P.E. Nwaka of the Yaba Magistrate Court, who sentenced Ajayi accordingly after he pleaded guilty.
The Police alleged that the convict had invaded the campus, went where the students namely, Tolakemi Olutimilehin, Augustine Osewa, Folade Olutimilehin,  Awoyele Damilola and Rebecca Ogunkoya, kept their phones and stole them.
The Police did not disclose the worth of the mobile phones. While he tried to escape after stealing the phones, he was caught by security guards and handed him over to the Police at Sabo Division for interrogation.
During interrogation, Ajayi admitted before the Police and in his statement to have stolen the items, which he had intended to sell before he was caught.
The Police found him culpable and subsequently charged him before the Court for the alleged offence.
He pleaded guilty when he was arraigned.
Hence the prosecutor, Supol Thomas Nurudeen, presented the facts of the matter and asked the Court that since the Ajayi pleaded guilty, the Court should sentence him accordingly to serve as deterrent to others who might try such in the future.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mr. P.E. Nwaka, found him guilty and sentenced accordingly.
