A 28-year old man, Babatunde Olawale, has been arrested and charged in Lagos State for allegedly severally engaging his neighbour’s 10-year old girl in sex before he was later exposed by the victim.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at Oluwani Street, Ladipo, Lagos, where they reside.

According to the Police, the suspect had on several occasions lured the girl into his apartment, engaged her in the act and warned her not to tell anyone about it.

However, at a point, the victim revealed what happened to her parents on how the suspect had defiled her severally.

The matter was reported to the Police in the area. The suspect was arrested and transferred to the Gender Section of the Command for interrogation over his alleged conduct.

After rounds of interrogation, the Police found him culpable and charged him before the Ogba Magistrate Court for the alleged offence.

The charge stated, “That you, Babatunde Olawale ‘m’, sometimes in the month of July, 2024, at Oluwani Street, Ladipo. Lagos State, in the Lagos Magisterial district, did defile the victim by forcefully having sexual intercourse with her severally without her consent and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2016”.

The Court did not take his plea when he was arraigned following a motion moved by the prosecutor, Inspector John Iberedem, asking the Court to refer the matter to the DPP for legal advice.

The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. Ex. Kubenije, ordered his remand in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending the outcome of the DPP’s advice and directed the prosecutor to duplicate the file and send it to the DPP.

The matter was adjourned till 15th October, 2024, for mention for the report of the DPP’s advice to be available, which will determine if the matter will be transferred to the High Court or not over jurisdiction.
