Man, 29, Remanded For Stealing Underwear Worth N34,000 At JustRite Store

A 29-year old man, Adekunle Onakoya, has landed in trouble in Lagos State for allegedly stealing one trouser and singlet worth N34,000 at Justrite Super Mart and he was caught by the security guards.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the suspect, Onakoya, has been arrested and charged before the Court for stealing.
The incident happened in the evening on 2nd April, 2025, at the Justrite Super Mart located at Abule Egba, New Oko-Oba area of Lagos.
According to the Police, the suspect went to the place, pretended to be buying items and in the process, he allegedly stole the items and hid them on his body.
However, he did not know that the security guards on duty saw him. When he wanted to escape, he was accosted and the items were recovered. He was subsequently handed over to the Police at New Oko-Oba Division for interrogation and prosecution.
After interrogation, the Police found him culpable and charged him before the Ogba Magistrate Court for the alleged offence which attracts several years of imprisonment.
The charge read: “That you, Adekunle Onakoya “M” on 02/04/2025, at about 19 45 hrs at Justrite super market Abule – Egba, New Oko-Oba, in the Ikeja magisterial district, did steal one trouser and pair of singlet valued N34,000.00. Thirty four thousand Naira, property of JUSTRITE SUPER MARKET and thereby committed and offence contrary to and punishable under Section 287 of the criminal law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”
He pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Supol Akeem Raji, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. O. Kusanu, granted him bail with surety, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while address will be verified by the Court.
The matter was adjourned for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional center pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
It was gathered that the management insisted on prosecuting the defendant to serve as deterrent to others who might want to commit similar crime in future.
