Probably if a 32-year old man, Okemakinde Adebayo, knew that he may spend the rest of his life in prison custody for allegedly engaging a 12-year old girl in sex romp in Lagos State, he may have avoided it.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that having slept with the girl with her consent according to him, it got exposed and was reported to the Police by the girl’s parents.
The incident happened at Ayinde Giwa Street, Surulere area of Lagos, where they reside.
He was said to have lured the girl after confusing her with words of mouth and then engaged her in the romp before they were caught. He was handed over to the Police in the area and from there, he was transferred to the Gender Section of the Lagos State Police Command for interrogation.
During interrogation, Adebayo reportedly admitted to have slept with the girl but with her consent as he did not engage her by  any use of force during the act.
The Police found him culpable and subsequently charged him before the Ogba Magistrates Court for the alleged offence.
When he was arraigned, the Court did not take his plea following a motion moved by the prosecutor, DSP Kehinde Ajayi, asking the Court to refer the matter to the DPP for advice.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. E. Kubenije, ordered his remand in the Correctional Centre at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when the DPP’s report will be ready and directed the prosecutor to duplicate the file and send it to the DPP.
The matter was adjourned till 28th August, 2022, for mention to know the outcome of DPP’s advice, which will determine if the matter will be transferred to the High Court or not over jurisdiction.
