A 32-year old man, Adewale Adeleke, has been arrested and charged in Lagos State for allegedly breaking into a shop and stealing a pot of soup containing meat belonging to Mrs. Aina Adeyemo.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at Orisubare in Ayobo area of Lagos, where the shop is located.

Apart from the soup, Adeleke was alleged to have carted away rice and eggs inside the shop, which he intended to cook after he was done eating the soup.

He was said to have not touched any other items found in the shop except the mentioned items, which he successfully carted away and escaped was said to have started making use of the soup before he was caught.

Trouble started after the owner of the items,  Mrs. Adeyemo opened her shop and discovered that it was burgled and the soup she kept inside the fridge was missing and she raised alarm which attracted other neighbours.

It was then the information leaked and the items was traced to Adeleke, who later admitted and offered to return the remaining soup, rice and eggs he had not eaten.

The matter was reported to the Police at Ayobo Division and Adeleke was arrested and detained at the station for interrogation over his alleged conduct and the pot of soup was brought as exhibit.

The complainant told the Police that the soup and the meat inside the pot which Adeleke stole was worth N60,000 and then the rice and eggs worth N35,000 and N7,400 respectively. But the suspect, Adeleke, denied and told the Police that there was no much meat inside the soup and the complainant had used it before he stole it.

After interrogation, the Police found him culpable and charged him before the Ogba Magistrate Court for burglary and stealing.

However, he pleaded not guilty.

The prosecutor, Supol Akeem Raji, told the Court that he had no objection of granting him bail but asked for a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.

The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. B.O Osunsanmi, granted him bail with surety and ordered his remand in correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
