Man, 33, Arraigned For Allegedly Swindling Victim Of N11m Over Visa Procurement

A 33-year old man, Sulaimon Moshood, has been arrested and charged in Lagos State for allegedly swindling a man, Clement Olanrewaju, to the tune of N11m over visa procurement. 

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened on 11th of February, 2025, at  Shasha Akowonjo Road, Egbeda, Alimosho area of Lagos.

According to the Police, the suspect collected the money from the complainant under the false pretence of procuring student’s visa within a period and he paid the money.

However, after he collected the money,  he converted it to his own use and bolted away without procuring the visa as he had earlier promised the complainant.  Rather he disconnected every communication he had with the complainant and went into hiding.

The matter was reported to the Police at Shasha Division. The Police operatives moved into action, eventually arrested the suspect and detained him at the station for interrogation over his alleged conduct.

The Police found him culpable after interrogation and consequently charged him before the Ejigbo Magistrate Court for the alleged offence, which attracts several years of imprisonment.

The charges read:

COUNT I: “That you, Sulaimon Moshood ‘m’ on the 11th of February, 2025, at No.10, Shasha Akowonjo Road, Egbeda, Alimosho area in Lagos Magisterial district, did fraudulently obtain the sum of (N11,000.000) Eleven million Naira only, under the pretence of procuring student visa for one Clement Olanrewaju ‘m’ and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 314(3) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.”

COUNT II:- “That you, Sulaimon Moshood ‘m’ on the same date, time and place in the aforementioned Magisterial District, did convert the sum of N11,000.000 (Eleven million Naira only) into your personal use, property of one Clement Olanrewaju ‘m’ and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 280 (B) and punishable under Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.”

However, he pleaded not guilty.

The prosecutor, Inspector Simeon Njue, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.

The Presiding Magistrate, Mr. T.A. Popoola, granted him bail with two sureties, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will be verified by the Court.

The matter was adjourned for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
