A 36-year old man, Joseph Moses, has been arrested and changed before the Court in Lagos for allegedly engaging a 13-year old girl in sex and being caught in the act.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that he was charged for defilement which attracts life imprisonment if he is tried and found guilty for the alleged offence.

The incident happened at Kadiri Street, Alausa area of Ikeja, Lagos, where they reside.

According to Police sources, Moses returned from work, lured the girl into his apartment and penetrated her before they were caught.

The matter was reported to the Police at Isokoko Division, where he was interrogated and he admitted that he slept with the girl but with her consent not minding she was still a minor.

This has landed Moses in trouble as the Police found him culpable because of the age of the girl and subsequently charged him before the Ogba Magistrates Court.

However, the Court did not take his plea after the prosecutor,  Supol Bisi Ogundele, asked the Court to refer the matter to the DPP for advice.

The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. E. Kubeinje, ordered him to be remanded in prison custody pending the outcome of the DPP’s report without an option of bail.

The Court also directed the prosecutor to duplicate the file and send to the DPP for advice while Moses will remain at the Correctional Centre pending the outcome of the DPP’s report.

P.M.EXPRESS gathered that the matter may likely be transferred to the High Court if the DPP finds him culpable and recommends his trial over jurisdiction.
