There was a twist over the arrest of a 36-year old, Sunday Ekwere, who allegedly slept with and impregnated a 13-year old house maid as she started negotiations to get married to her inside Elemoron Police Division in Lagos.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the suspect, Ekwere, was arrested and transferred to the Gender Section of the Police Command, Lagos and was said to have regained freedom.
The alleged rape happened at No. 15 Denis Osuya Street, Losoro, Lagassa Phase II in Ibeji-Lekki area of Lagos State, inside an uncompleted building where Ekwere resides with the victim’s guardians, who brought her from the Eastern part of the Country.

The suspect, Ekwere, was said to have engaged the victim in sex romp when she was 12 and claimed that she was 16 before he impregnated her. He equally said he was making attempt to get married to her before the Police foiled the plan.

The reason for his release from the Gender Section was not yet known as the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Bala Elkana, could not be reached on phone.

However, Police source said that the Gender Section might have released the suspect because the house maid was said to have been delivered of a baby in the Eastern part of the country, which might pose a challenge due to distance despite the fact that the medical report was said to be with the Gender Section of the Police Command.

The release of the suspect was said to have brought serious fear to the residents, who were said to be alarmed that young girls in the area are no longer safe as they suspected that there may be other victims who had suffered the same fate with the house maid.
