Man, 37, Batters Wife Over Children’s Feeding

A 37-year old man, Samuel Bassey, has been arrested and charged in Lagos State for allegedly battering wife, Blessing Bassey, over money for their children’s feeding. 

 

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at Park Lane at Cooperative Villa, Ajah area of Lagos, where they reside.

 

The alleged assault was reported to the DSVA at Alausa, Ikeja and the husband, Samuel, was arrested and detained for interrogation and he did not show any remorse for his actions and was then charged to Court.

 

According to Police sources, trouble started in their marriage sometime in October, 2023, when Samuel secretly went to the bank and withdrew N620,000 from their joint account without informing his wife.

 

Thus, when the wife discovered and asked him, he became angry; he reportedly attacked and inflicted injuries on her body with beatings. He went further to stop providing the necessary of life for the children.

 

After interrogation, the DSVA officials found him culpable and charged him before the Ogba Magistrate Court for the alleged offence, which attracts several years of imprisonment.

 

However, he pleaded not guilty.

 

The Prosecutor, Supol Rachael Williams, then asked the Court to give a short date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.

 

The Presiding Magistrate, Mr, F.O. Ameen, granted him in the sum of N100,000 with one surety in like sum, who must show evidence of means of livelihood.

 

The matter was adjourned for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
