A 38-year old man, Yusuf Olatunji, has been arrested and charged in Lagos State for allegedly being in possession of four human parts suspected to have been stolen from a cemetery.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at Ayobo Cemetery in Amule, Ayobo area of Lagos.
According to the Police, the suspect went to the cemetery, stole the human parts and as he tried to escape, he was caught by security guards and handed over to the Police at Ayobo Division. From there, he was transferred to the SCID, Yaba, for further investigation.
After rounds of interrogation, the Police found him culpable because he was unable to give satisfactory account of how he came to be in possession of the parts. He was subsequently charged before the Yaba Magistrate Court for the alleged offence, which attracts several years of imprisonment.
The charge read:
“That you, YUSUF OLATUNJI ‘M’, at about 2145hrs, at Ayobo Cementry, Amule Ayobo, Lagos, in the Lagos State Magisterial District, did unlawfully have in your possession four (4) human skulls, which you could not give satisfactory account of and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 238 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”
However,  he pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Supol Thomas Nurudeen, asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. A.O. Alaka, granted him bail with two sureties, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will be verified by the Court.
The matter was adjourned for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional center pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
