Man, 39, Docked For Defiling Neighbour’s Girl, 6

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened on 23rd August, 2023, at Aruna Street, New Site, Iledu, off Lagos Badagry Expressway, Lagos, where they reside.

The Prosecutor, Supol Akeem Raji, told the Court that the defendant, Pobowe, took advantage of the little girl while she was playing outside with other children,  lured her into his apartment and engaged her in sex.

However, the alleged dastardly act got exposed after the girl’s elder brother started looking for her where they were playing and eventually traced her to the defendant’s apartment, but by then he had already defiled her.

The  victim’s elder brother informed their parents about what happened. The  mother raised alarm and reported the incident to the Police in the area. The defendant was then arrested and transferred to the Gender Section of the Command for interrogation over his alleged conduct.

After rounds of interrogation, the Police found him culpable and consequently charged him before the Ogba Magistrate Court for the alleged offence, which contravened the Criminal Laws of Lagos State (2015).

The Court did not take his plea when he was arraigned following a motion moved by the prosecutor, Supol Akeem Raji, asking the Court to refer the matter to the DPP for legal advice.

Hence, the Presiding Chief Magistrate, Mrs. B.O. Osunsanmi, ordered the defendant to be remanded in custody pending the outcome of the DPP’s advice and directed the prosecutor to duplicate the file and send it to the DPP.

The matter was adjourned till 16th October, 2023, for mention for the report of the DPP’s advice to be available, which will determine if the matter will be transferred to the High Court or not over jurisdiction.
