A 42-year-old man, Kazeem Olaosebikan, has been arraigned before a Magistrate Court sitting in Ikeja, Lagos, over allegations bordering on breach of peace, theft, and willful damage to property.
The Lagos State Police Command presented the case before the court. According to the charge, the alleged incident took place on May 9, 2026, at about 5:00pm.
Police said the incident occurred at No 1, Ring Road Omologede Street, Meiran, within the Ikeja Magisterial District. The matter was reported to the Police and detectives commenced investigation before bringing the defendant to court.
In Count One, the prosecution alleged that the defendant conducted himself in a manner likely to cause a breach of peace. It was stated that he collected the sum of Six Hundred and Ten Thousand Naira belonging to one Tajudeen Sulieman under circumstances that created tension in the area.
The offence was said to be contrary to and punishable under Section 168(d) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015. The prosecutor told the court that such conduct is capable of disturbing public order.
Count Two bordered on theft. The Police alleged that on the same date, time, and place, Olaosebikan stole the sum of N610,000, property of Suleiman Tajudeen, and converted the money to his own personal use.
The prosecution said the alleged act violated Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015, which prescribes punishment for stealing. The complainant, according to the Police, reported the incident after efforts to resolve it failed.
In Count Three, the defendant was charged with willful damage to property. The charge stated that he allegedly damaged a Mercedes Benz 450GL valued at One Hundred Million Naira, also said to be the property of Suleiman Tajudeen.
The prosecution noted that the alleged damage was contrary to Section 350 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State. The vehicle was listed as an exhibit and will be tendered during trial to support the case.
The IPO handling the case was listed as Supol Alonge Bridget. The DPO’s office was also referenced on the charge sheet for administrative and supervisory purposes during the investigation.
During proceedings, the particulars of the offence were read to the defendant in open court. He pleaded not guilty to all three counts.
The Prosecutor, SP Josephine Ihkayere, asked the court for a date for hearing to enable the Police to call witnesses and tender evidence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mr. L.A. Owolabi, granted the defendant bail on liberal terms with two sureties. The court ordered that the sureties must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment. The matter was adjourned for mention and the defendant was remanded in custody at the Correctional Centre pending the perfection of his bail conditions.
Legal observers who monitored the proceedings said the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty by a competent court. They added that the court will ensure that due process is followed as the case progresses.
