A 42-year old man, Mordi Collins, who allegedly posed as a Medical Doctor to swindle a lady, Omolara Adebola, to the tune of the sum of N380,000 under the false pretence of taking her to United States of America has been remanded in custody in Lagos State.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the suspect,  Collins, was charged before the Surulere Chief Magistrate Court for the alleged fraud after the victim reported to the Police.
Collins, who resides at Ring Road, Akala Way, Ibadan, is being tried on a four-count charge of impersonation, issuance of a dud cheque, obtaining by pretense, and stealing.
The Prosecutor, Inspector Courage Ekhueorohan, told the Court that Collins committed the alleged offence  sometime in July, 2023 at No. 38, Ijesha Road, Itire, Surulere, Lagos.
Ekhueorohan said that while Collins was posing as a doctor to swindle his girlfriend, he deceived her into believing that they were going to relocate to the United States of America (USA) together and obtained the money in question.
He promised to pay her back when the relocation process clicked. As it did not work out, she demanded for her money to no avail.
The prosecutor said that after so much pressure from the complainant to get Collins to pay her back, he issued a dud cheque that was dishonored due to insufficient credit balance.
The offences, according to him, violated Sections 287, 314, 325, and 380 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 which attracts several years of imprisonment.
However, he pleaded not guilty when he was arraigned.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. Sanusi Adagun, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200,000, with two responsible sureties in like sum, who must be gainfully employed and have their house addresses verified by the Court.
The matter was adjourned till 2nd May, 2024, for trial while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional centre pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
