Man, 42, Docked For Stealing N. 5m Copper Wire At Dover Hotel

A 42-year old man, Chukwuma Anyanwu, has been arrested and charged in Lagos State for allegedly stealing copper wire worth N.5m belonging to Dover Hotel.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened on 10th January, 2026, at Aromire Avenue, Ikeja, Lagos, where the hotel is located.
According to the Police, the suspect went to the hotel, stole the items and the hotel was thrown into darknes before the management discovered that the wire was stolen.
The matter was reported to the Police at MAN Centre Division. The Police operatives moved into action, eventually arrested and detained the suspect for interrogation over his alleged conduct.
After thorough interrogation, the Police found him culpable and charged him before the Ogba Magistrate Court for the alleged offence which attracts several years of imprisonment.
The charge read:
“That you, Chukwuma Anyanwu ‘m’ on the 10th January, 2026, at Aromire Avenue Ikeja, Lagos, in the Ikeja Magisterial District did steal some pieces of Copper Wire valued N 530,000 (Five Hundred Thirty Thousand Naira Only) property of Dover Hotel and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 280 and punishable under the Criminal Law of Lagos 2015.”
He pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Supol Josephine Ihkayere, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mr. L.A. Owolabi, granted him bail with two sureties, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will be verified by the Court.
The matter was adjourned for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
